Each week we like to challenge the children during cross country club. For our latest adventure we headed off to Ashridge (see details below). We covered over 2 miles averaging 9.41min/mile. I'm sure the children would have gone even quicker if Mrs Hawkes and Mrs Young could have kept up!!

Stockwood Park Sports Day

In the summer term children in the main school take part in a sports day at Stockwood Park. This is a great opportunity for children to experience running on a real athletic track. Non track events also take place during the day for groups of children when they are not participating in running events.

Stockwood Park Sports Day 2017

Just for a change our sports day was warm and sunny. The enthusiasm and the effort from the children however, remained unchanged. The fine weather clearly encouraged competition, as the school records tumbled in the warm Luton air. George W beat his  all time record in the 1500m, taking 13 seconds off his PB to record a time of 5.57. Similarly in the 800m George F beat the 2016 record by 12 seconds to record a time of 3.02. As George is in Y3 we expect this record to come down further in the coming years! Our Junior Sports Leaders also recognised the determination and perseverence of other competitors, some of whom were overcoming personal obstacles to take part. These special awards went to Laken, Daniel, Jimmy, Scarlet, Rosie, Poppy, Annalise, Felix, Isla, Max R, Eloise S, Zac C, Montana and Cara.

All in all it was a record breaking day enjoyed by all, as can be seen from the photos of the day. See all the results by clicking the link below.

Y6 make it 3 out of 4 tournament wins for EBA!

The final Rugby tournament for this school year (and for all of the pupils involved the very last opportunity to represent the school) was attended by our Y6 Rugny teams. Having heard of the successes of the lower years in the earlier tournaments the Y6 teams were determined to do their very best and perform well. Straightaway it was clear that the teams meant business with some inspired performances against the other schools. One EBA team won all of their matches and finished as tournament winners and the other team finished in an excellent third place with the two teams separated only by Beecroft school. After the announcement of the results the players all tucked in to some delicious hotdogs courtesy of Dunstable Rugby Club. This was a fitting way to end the sports year and meant that Mrs Hawkes finished her final tournament with a well deserved victory testament to all the hard coaching work put in during those cold PE lessons!

EBA are becoming a real powerhouse of Rugby winning 3 of the 4 tournaments this year at Dunstable and finishing runners up in the one that we did not win.

Y5 Rugby Team Unbeaten Tournament Win

The Y5 rugby team sought to return the school’s Rugby teams to winning ways as they commenced their tournament at Dunstable Rugby Club. From the off it was clear that the team meant business and like a juggernaut proceeded to power through the opposition like the unstoppable force that they are. The team ran like a well tuned engine with all components performing their tasks flawlessly, crossing  the try line on many occasions and remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. This meant another Rugby tournament win for the mighty EBA!

Y4 Rugby team so close to win

Another week, another rugby tournament this time without the blistering heat. The Y4 teams were now the recipients of Dunstable Rugby Club’s hospitality. The pressure was on the Y4 teams with the Y3 team having won the tournament the previous week. The fourth years did not disappoint and after the requisite training in the morning played some excellent rugby after lunch. With one match to play an EBA team was still unbeaten and faced the only other unbeaten team, Beecroft, in what was essentially the final. With one minute to play the scores were tied at 3-3 when EBA got the ball over the try line only for the score to be disallowed for an infringement. The opposition then ran the ball the length of the pitch to score with the last play of the game to win the match and the tournament with EBA finishing as well deserved runners up. Such are the margins of sport!

Y3 beat the heat to win rugby tournament

As in previous years EBA accepted an invitation from Dunstable Rugby Cub to take part in a local schools tag rugby tournament. On one of the hottest days of the year, more suited to laying on a beach than playing ruby, the Y3 rugby teams sought the shade of a cooling willow tree before commencing the ordeal of physical endurance and heat. The day started with the usual technical tasks overseen by the instructors to prepare the players for the afternoon’s matches. These challenges involved ‘bulldog’, the slalom course and the ever popular tackle bags.

After a welcome lunch our teams faced the opposition. Five red faced matches later one of the EBA team remained unbeaten and had won the tournament. This result continues a fine history for the school in this competition. After all of these exertions the reward was hotdogs all round courtesy of the rugby club.

EBA at the County Cricket Finals

All three of the victorious EBA crickets teams attended the county fnals at Dunstable cricket club on the hottest day of the year. The only school to be represented by three teams.

The competition was fierce with many of the schools feilding seasoned players. Nevertheless the EBA teams performed well and ran their opponents close. Mention should be made of the Y4 team who won one of the group matches and were  drawing their match against the eventual winners with 2 balls to bowl.

It was a tough day underneath the blazing sun but enjoyable nonetheless.

Y3/4 Cricket Team make it a clean sweep.

The Y3/4 cricket team made it a clean sweep with 3 tournament wins for EBA inside a week. The team comfotably won all of their matches and have progressed to the finals next week upholding a proud tradition of cricket tournament wins for EBA.

Y6 Boys cricket team make it 3 in a row!

Following hot on the heals of the Y6 girls victory in their tournament, the Y6 boys took to the cricket square at Dunstable Cricket Club with determination in their eyes. Having won their competitions in the two preceeding years the boys were looking to make it three in a row. The team peformed magnificently in both batting and fielding. They played 4 competitive games plus one against a guest team and won them all! They will end their 'careers' at EBA knowing that they were unbeaten at their age group for three consecutive years. The team now progress to the county finals next week.

Y5/6 Football team make the play offs!

Following hot on the heels of the successful Y3/4 team the Y5/6 team set out to try and emulate their achievements. Playing 9 a side and offside the small pitches made flowing football quite difficult but from the beginning it was clear that the team would have to play well due to the quality of the opposition.

In their first match the team took the lead but could not hang on to win. They managed a number of victories and also some draws and it was unclear at the end of the day whether the team had done enough to make the play offs. An anxious night passed before we got the news that the team had just qualified for the play offs due the following Tuesday.

The team returned to All Saints School facing the best teams from the first round. Playing longer matches the team fought hard and finished in third place at the end of the day.

The team had done extremely well to qualify for the next phase of competition and should be very pleased with their final placing.

Y3/4 Football team - Runners up!

The Y3/4 football lined up against 7 other local teams for this tournament at All Saints School. The team performed fantastically from the first whistle with some excellent defending and quality goals along the way finishing unbeaten and top of their group and into the final.

The final was a tense affair with neither side giving away any clear cut chances. Then shortly before the end the opposition broke away and fired a shot at the our keeper who pulled off a great save only to see the ball fall invitingly at the feet of their striker who only had to tap it over the line. This was the final score at the end with EBA narrowly missing out but worthy runners up.

Y6 Hockey team runners up!

On the old familiar plastic turf of All Saints our Y6 hockey warriors took to the field resplendent in their plastic armour and gum shields.

Our first match, against the eventual winners, was a close affair with EBA taking an early lead before finally succumbing to 3 late goals from a player who had brought along his own hockey stick in a protective case. In our following 3 games the EBA team were in imperious mood despatchng their rivals by 5 unanswered goals in all 3 games to end up as runners up in the tournament.  Had we played the winners last instead of first it may have been a different result as our team really got into their stride in the later games. Well done the Y6 hockey team!

Y6 Cross country team pass tough test

In a departure from our usual cross country location and opponents. We decided to enter the Y6 cross country team in a much tougher race at Vandyke School in Leighton Buzzard to really test their mettle. Running over a 2 mile course containing both Y6 and Y7 runners, the team put in a fantastic showing beating a couple of middle schools and finishing in a fantastc 7th place overall.

A very big well done to the Y6 team!

Y5/6 Tag Rugby Team Victorious again.

The fantastic record of the EBA tag rugby teams contnues with another tournament win. On a freezing night at All Saints School (it is always cold there!) the Y5/6 Tag rugby team were winners of their pool. Playing some fast and furious rugby they went undefeated winning 3 games and drawing their fourth and ultimately topping their pool. There was not time to play any finals and so the group winners were declared as joint champions.

Another great result for EBA in a sport that we always excel at.

Cross Country Champions

In November the EBA cross country team travelled to All Saints School to compete in the local schools tournament. All 3 EBA teams put in fantastic performances combined with many outstanding individual times over the mile and a half and two mile courses. Both the y6 boys and the y4 boys finished second overall in their category. However the y4 girls went one better and won their team race with all four runners finishing in the first six over the finish line. A quite brilliant result! The girls Isabel, Grace, Jessica and Lilyanna were presented with their winners medals during a school assembly. This was a remarkable result for the EBA cross country team.

Y4 Sports Hall Tournament

On Friday 11th November 2016 Badgers class competed at the annual sports hall tournament taking place in Dunstable Leisure Centre. This is a tournament in which EBA have done well in past years and this one was to be no exception.

With 10 other locals schools taking part the competition was fierce in the range of events which included speed bounce, vertical jump, soft javelin, chest push, standing triple jump, paarlauf, over/under relay and many other relay events.

The EBA athletes won a number of events and finished second in many others. Overall we finished fourth just behind Beecroft School who had just 8 points more. The team gave their very best in all events and often you could see the determination in their faces as they competed. Well done Y4 athletes a great result!

KS2 Sports Day Results

The looming rain clouds clearly did not dampen the spirits of our KS2 athletes as the course records fell in each of the measured distances(see table below). This then was possibly the most competitive KS2 sports days ever. Alas, the rain did not hold off and the awards ceremonies were held in the hall after the athletes and parents had beat a hasty retreat due to the deluge from above.

EBA wins shield for best local sports school

EBA has been awarded the acolade of being the school that has won the most sports tournaments in the Dunstable area over the last school year. This fantastic acheivement is due to the effort and commitment shown by all of the children who represent the school in the various sports competitions and to the tireless work of Mrs Hawkes. The shield was presented to the head boy and girl at the end of term assembly

EBA rugby teams in action

Badgers and Foxes class both attended  the rugby tournament organised by Dunstable Rugby Club. After a morning undertaking rugby drills including the tackle bags which the children loved! It was time for the teams to compete against a number of other local schools. Badgers class entered 3 teams into the competition and all performed very well and were all highly placed. Foxes class also entered 3 teams with all 3 in the top 5 places and one being beaten by the eventual winners somewhat controversially after extra time. Best of all was the hot dogs at the end of play kindly provided by the rugby club.

Y5/6 Cricket team retain their title

The Y 5/6 cricket team returned to All Saints School on 9th June 2016 looking to defend the title they won at last year's tournament.

The team bowled and batted superbly and thought that they might be in with a chance of winning as the approached the final match against the only other unbeaten team in the competition. In a tense game it was hard to keep track of the scores and we had to wait for the official result at the end of play.

The team held their breath as the announcer read the results in reverse order. EBA were the winners! They had successfully defended their title.

Two tournament wins for our cricket teams in one week.

Y3/4 Cricket Team Win tournament

The Y3/4 cricket team were triumphant in the inter school tournament at All Saints on 7th June 2016. The team beat all 5 other schools to win the tournament although it was by a small margin.

The team performed magificently with all players having to play in all positions.

The team hit a number of sixes and took many wickets both by bowling and fielding.

The team collected their winners medals at the the conclusion of the the tournament keeping up a very good record for EBA cricket teams.

Football team win away

21st April 2016

The school football team travelled away to Ardley Hill.School to play the earlier postponed fixture. On a unusually warm and sunny afternoon the EBA team kicked off the match and were rewarded with a goal. This was quickly followed by a superb headed goal to increase our lead. Ardley Hill came back strongly and pulled a goal back before half time. In the second half the EBA team began to dominate and scored a futher four goals without reply winning the game  with a comfortable scoreline of 6-1.

Y5/6 Swim Team make waves

The EBA swimming team took part in a 7 school gala at Dunstable Leisure Centre on the morning of 19th April. The school represented by children from Years 5 and 6 started strongly winning their first 2 heats. The swimming gala encompassed breast stroke, back crawl and front crawl as well as a number of relay races. The team all swam well with some excellent individual performances meaning that the team finished in an excellent 4th place at the end of competition.

Y6 Athletics team win Tournament!

Following on from the success of the Y4 athletics team, the Y6 team approached the competition with determination. The athletics events were similar to the mornings activities comprising of relay races, jumping and throwing events. From the start the team were very competitive and won a number of the running events. We could tell that the team were in contention but the 'field' events were an unknown quantity. The team had reported that they thought that had done well in their events and so it proved. As the results were read out we waited anxiously for the school's name to be announced which it finally was - EBA were the winners! The team had beaten 6 other schools to win the tournament. A huge well done to the team who went off like a rocket and kept up the momentum throughout the tournament.

Y4 Athletics team in action

The y4 athletics team took part in an indoor athletics tournament at All Saints competing in a variety of disciplines including: relay races, standing long jump, triple jump, javelin and high jump. EBA were competing against 8 other schools from the area and acquitted themselves very well coming a creditable 6th overall at the end of competition. The team always gave 100% effort and thoroughly enjoyed the competition.

Y5 football team beaten by the weather

Another cold night at All Saints School only this time with added torrential rain as we took the Y5 boys football team along to the eagerly anticipated tournament. With 9 schools taking part time was going to be at a premium and so it proved to be.

The team started very well with a 1-0 victory in their first match. Playing only 8 minutes per game scoring was going to be difficult and this is reflected in our next 2 matches which finished 0-0. The team went down 2-0 in what proved to be their final match against the eventual winners. At this point the weather worsened and the organisers decided to call a halt to the proceedings. EBA finished third but had they managed to complete the other 3 games they may well have improved upon this. Well done to the boys who never gave up and remained cheerful in the face of the adverse weather

The Y5/6 girls football team go close in tournament

The y5/6 girls football team were excited to be taking part in a tournament as we headed off to All Saints in the minibus on a mild St David's day.

With the team comprising of some regular players and some who were enthusiastic newcomers they all began their preparations for the tournament with a thorough warm up prior to taking the field.

Our first match was against Hawthorn a team we had identified as possible winners. After being under pressure for some time Hawthorn scored. The girls rallied and had some pressure of their own which culminated in Millie scoring the equaliser with the very last kick of the game.

A comprehensive display in our match against Beecroft saw EBA run out winners by 7-0. The game against Lancott ended in a goaless draw despite EBA hiting the post twice.

Our final match with The Vale was a tense affair with both sides going close. The tournament organiser said that if we won the game 2-0 then we would win the tournament outright. At that moment The Vale scored and that was how it stayed.

EBA finished third on goal difference which was a great result.

Unbeaten Y3/4 Tag rugby team storm to tournament win.

On yet another freezing cold night the Y3/4 tag rugby team took to the field on the astro pitch at All Saints. We knew that the EBA team were good having completed some last minute training at school the previous Tuesday. What we did not know was how good they were.

There were seven teams competing in the tournament and the scores of each match were as follows:

EBA 7 Hawthorn 0

EBA 13  Hadrian 4

EBA 1 Larkrise 0

EBA 7 Beecroft 2

EBA 3 St. Christophers 3

EBA 6 Thomas Whitehead 0

The team remained undefeated and won the tournament being presented with their winners medals after the results were announced.

A fantastic achievement for the entire team, well done!

Tag Rugby Tournament

8th December 2015  All Saints School

On a very cold December evening the y5/6 tag rugby team set out to do battle on the astro turf of All Saints School, Dunstable.

The team were eager to start and got straight into their first match against Beecroft which ended in a hard fought draw. With the very wide pitches the players were flying down the wings with many tries being scored on both sides despite the short 5 minute matches.

The team played a further 5 matches in the tournament against St.Christophers, Lark Rise, Hawthorn and Tithe Farm and finished with a record of 2 wins, 3 draws and only 1 loss.

The team comprising of mostly y5's performed magnificently against the y6's from other schools and thoroughly enjoyed playing in the tournament.

School Tag Rugby Tournament

16th November 2015

On a muddy Monday afternoon the four teams from years 5 & 6 faced each other in the eagerly anticipated school tag rugby tournament.

Both semi finals were closely contested with one match being decided by the odd try and the other going to a 'golden' try.

The final between blue year 5 and red year 6 was a tense affair with the winning try for the reds being scored just 20 seconds from the end of the match.

Third place was taken by year 6 blues.

Well done to all who took part in a well fought competition.

Football Team

Eaton Bray v Edlesborough

22nd October 2015

The school football team returned to Edlesborough school for the much awaited return match following our 2-1 victory last season. With the team being representative of KS2 this time there were a number of new faces to assimilate into the team. EBA took the lead with a well taken goal from our top scorer Cian. We were soon pegged back to 1-1 and this was how it remained through a hard fought first half. The team had a penalty awarded against them early in the second half which was converted by Edlesborough to put them in the lead. As the team went looking for an equaliser we went further behind. The boys were unable to keep the momentum that they had in the first half and the team went down valiantly, fighting to the end.

KS1 Sports Hall Athletics

Otters class attended the sports hall athletics tournament at All Saints School. After the excitement of the mini bus ride we entered the huge sports hall at All Saints that was already ringing with the sounds of the other competitors from the 9 schools that were also taking part in the event.

The chidren took part in 6 different disciplines such as the foam javelin, long jump and ball throwing. Following these events were a series of relay events in which the EBA team performed excellently.

Overall the EBA team finished 4th out of 10 which demonstrates the effort and determination of the entire team.

KS2 Sports Day 2015

On a glorious September afternoon KS2 took to the school field to compete in the annual sports day. All of the events were eagerly contested and the large crowd thoroughly enjoyed the spirit of competition on display. The blue ribbon event, the 1 mile race, summed up the day with the result as close as it possibly could be only 1 second separating first and second place. Both runners were cheered to the finish line and into the last 50 metres it was anybody's race with George ultimately just getting ahead to win the race. Well done to everyone who took part and contributed to a great afternoon of sport.

KS1 Sports Day 2015

Despite the impending wet weather the children's spirits could not be dampened as they took part in this year's KS1 Sports Day. The children had all been practising for their events in their PE lessons or during Marathon Club at lunch time. The Junior Sport Leaders did a fantastic job setting up for the day and supporting the younger children. For the first time the Sports Leaders used the Sprint Time App on the ipad to record all children's finishing times in the distance races. This was very successful giving accurate times for all the children. See here for RESULTS.

Well done to all the children who took part, not only were there some fantastic results, but, as always, great team spirit!

Sports Tournaments

Festival of Sport

At the end of the summer term July 2015 our year 5 sent a team to Queensbury School to take part in their festival of sport which was organised and run by their sports leaders. The EBA team competed with many other schools over 10 different athletic events. A fantastic effort by the whole team saw EBA run out the eventual winners!

Eaton Bray Academy vs Edlesborough School

Local Football Derby

19th March 2015

For possibly the 1st time ever a football team from EBA set out to play a match against Edlesborough School. Responding to a challenge from Edlesborough the year 4 team, resplendent in their EBA track suits set off on the short drive to Edlesborough school for this historic clash of the titans.

The first few minutes were cagey with both sides testing each other. Then after 10 minutes Edlesborough took the lead. This, however, merely spurred EBA on. After a few minutes EBA equalised following some fantastic combination play and a final through ball which split the Edlesborough defence, allowing EBA to smash the ball into the opposition's net. Score at half time 1:1

After the half time team talk the match resumed and almost immediatley EBA took the lead with another well taken goal. Edlesborough changed their formation and increasingly began to threaten the EBA goal, but the team dug in and held the opposition off until the final whistle.

This was a team who had never played before, overcoming the more established oppostion. A huge well done to the year 4 team.

Final Score: Edlesborough 1 : EBA 2

The end result was very close and we managed a very credible 4th place. Particular congratulations to William (year 4) who raced against year 6 boys in the front crawl and was pipped at the post for 1st place. Joshua and Freddie (both year 4s) raced against year 5s and came in 1st and 2nd respectively. Well done to all the children for taking part and for doing so well.

All the children received a certificate with their race time so they will be able to see their progress in subsequent years. Click here for results
