I joined the governing body of Eaton Bray Academy in December 2012 as a parent governor. Both my children George and Isobel were at the school and I felt I wanted to be more involved with the school and find out more about what makes EBA run so smoothly and if possible make a contribution.
I am on the Estates Committee, involved with the upkeep and development of the school buildings and grounds, and also I am governor with responsibility for Science and Design & Technology. Both these areas hold particular interest to me as I studied Science at school and at Sheffield University, and I am a practical sort of person who enjoys arts and crafts, particularly art, pottery and costume making for the kids.
I enjoy the role of governor because of the close involvement with the school, and because I get to help maintain the high standards of academic and increasing sporting achievement, as well as the friendly and inclusive ethos which the school has. The recent change from a Lower to a Primary School has certainly presented challenges, but there is a real drive from everyone on the governing team and academic staff to keep going from strength to strength.
