Geography skills are developed from when the children first start school. For example, children in EYFS and KS1 have a soft toy animal, who goes on holidays, weekends away and days out with them. The children develop their understanding of places and journeys and they are encouraged to bring back items from where they have been, send postcards or email.



Children take part in a wide variety of activities including following the travels of Barnaby Bear, using stories to further their geographical skills, investigating geographical news events, and undertaking field studies using the school grounds and the local environment. They learn about other localities using a variety of resources (including the internet) and look at the similarities and differences with where we live.
